The Soft Play Guide UK
Our story

Built by parents, for the families who plan the trip before the joy.

The Soft Play Guide UK began with a single overwhelming morning, as any parent would imagine. A soft play that was too loud, too bright, and too crowded to stay. We left wondering why it is so hard to know these things before you arrive, and left our little one picking up his shoes and walking out of the door (seriously!). That's when he's telling us he's had enough.

Why we created it

For many families, a day out isn't simply "let's go". It is a quiet rehearsal: Will it be too noisy? Is there a corner to retreat to? Will the lights be bearable? Will we be welcomed, or merely tolerated?

Existing directories tell you the price and the postcode. They rarely tell you whether a child who covers their ears at the door will make it past the first ten minutes. So we built the guide we wished had existed, one that treats sensory environment as the headline, not a footnote.

The Soft Play Guide UK gathers soft plays, activity centres and SEN-welcoming spaces with the details that shape a visit: noise levels, lighting, crowd density, quiet zones, and the small accommodations like ear defenders and weighted blankets that signal a place has thought about your child.

This isn't a perfect science, but we're on a mission to make it right for all families, no matter what they are experiencing. We want to make things as stress-free as possible for you.

Meet the family behind The Soft Play Guide UK

Hi, I'm Alex. Behind this website is my partner Lottie and our three boys, Henry, Theo and George.

Between the five of us, we've experienced pretty much every kind of soft play you can imagine. We've found the truly brilliant ones, the "write this place down before you forget the name" kind, and we've survived the horrendous ones too, the sort that leave you wondering how they're allowed to charge for entry, let alone how they got planning permission in the first place.

The final straw was on a family holiday. We were away for the week, and one morning, like every parent does, we were trying to fill a few hours before nap time kicked in, so we thought we'd find a local soft play to burn off some energy. There wasn't much information online about the place we picked, but the reviews looked decent enough, so we gave it a go. Big mistake. We weren't even there 12 minutes before one of our sons picked up his own shoes, walked to the door, and said "bye", because even he knew it wasn't a great place. The noise was overwhelming, and the customer service was nowhere near what you'd expect for what we'd paid.

That was the moment it clicked: there should be a website that does more than just tell you where the soft plays are. We've all typed "soft play near me" into Google and hoped for the best. But in 2026, with so many of us more aware of mood and social anxiety, over-stimulation and sensory overload, for our kids and ourselves, a day out shouldn't feel like a gamble. So that's what we set out to build: somewhere that takes a bit of that guesswork, and the mental load that comes with it, off your plate.

We ask every venue listed with us for as much detail as possible, so you know exactly what you're walking into before you arrive, not just an address and a phone number. And every review on the site is written by real parents who've actually been, not AI-generated fluff. If a venue ticks the boxes you're looking for and the reviews back it up, we've done our job.

By day, I'm an Executive Assistant in London, and Lottie is a dog walker, so between the two of us, helping others (human and canine alike) is pretty much in our blood.

Welcome to The Soft Play Guide UK. If you've got any questions, just shout, we'll do our best to help.

What guides us

Sensory-first

We lead with the details that matter to sensory-sensitive families: noise, light, crowd and calm, not just star ratings.

Parent-verified

Every listing is shaped by real visits and real reviews from parents who navigate these spaces with their own children.

No judgement

There is no "right" way to play. We share what is, so you can decide what works for your child today.

Community-grown

Parents recommend the places we might never find alone. The directory grows with every story shared.
