The Soft Play Guide UK

Safety & inclusion standards

Every venue in the directory is evaluated against these criteria so you can choose a space with confidence.

What we look for

Sensory environment disclosure

Venues honestly report their typical noise level, light intensity, and crowd density so families can anticipate the environment before arriving.

Physical accessibility

Step-free or lift access, accessible toilets, and clear information about parking distance from the entrance are recorded for every venue.

Inclusive welcome

Staff are expected to welcome neurodivergent and disabled children without judgement, and to accommodate sensory needs where reasonably possible.

Sensory accommodations

We highlight venues offering quiet zones, weighted blankets, ear defenders, or sensory-friendly sessions so families can plan ahead.

Crowd management

Venues share their busiest times and any capacity limits, helping families visit during calmer periods.

Age-appropriate play

Age ranges are listed so families can match the space to their child's developmental stage and interests.

How venues are evaluated

  1. 1

    Submission

Venue owners submit detailed information about their space, or parents recommend a venue they've visited.

  2. 2

    Review

Our team checks the submission against these standards for completeness and honesty.

  3. 3

    Publishing

Approved venues appear in the directory with their full sensory and accessibility profile.

  4. 4

    Ongoing feedback

Parent reviews keep venues accountable and flag changes over time.

A note on confidence. Our standards help you plan, but they don't replace your judgement or a quick call ahead. Conditions change, staff rotate, and busy days happen. We encourage families to confirm key details directly with the venue before travelling.
